I’m always a bit startled by the vibrancy of this salvia. Look like it was painted on to the photo! Always love the contrast with the turquoise pot.

Ever vigilant but constantly shaking off the rain

The rain comes but I must keep watch. Part 3 will show my Rain Shake Off Dance.

It’s rough out here but gotta keep eating because I’m going on a long trip soon

I had my camera pointed at the feeders across the deck when this young male visited the hummingbird mint agastache three feet from me. I was able to get a few shots. Besides being dreamy looking, the mint is also nice because it lasts through Fall until the first freeze and came back beautifully from last years planting.
The bud of the flower is about an inch long so his nose basically fits in there. It’s a young male as we can see from the tapered sixth wing, annotated in the 3rd shot. Also the young males have white tips in some of their tail feathers.

I’m always amazed at how tiny hummingbirds are. Each of these mint blossoms are about 1 inch long, which makes this bird about 2.5 inches long. And her beak is completely buried in the blossom.

I love how it looks like this young bird is wearing red shoes. Seeing from behind, I’m unsure who this is but it is a young male, as indicated by the arrow in the second picture, which shows a rounded versus tapered feather.

If you sit behind your camera as much as I do you see the first leaf fall, which happens in July. Summer is fading. The light is changing. Hummingbird Fight Season is also fading–the females and young males get to spend more time in the flowers. Some hummingbirds will be here until the middle of October and I’ll be here behind my camera as much as I can until then.
