Hummingbird Cabana

I love the contrast of the blue planters, the sheen of the hummingbird feathers and the flowers in these photos.

Love the color of the blooms on this Cigar Plant. I have a new variety this year that I have not gotten a shot of (with birds) called a Bat Faced Cuphea. Hopefully I’ll get a shot soon.

This cardinal visits each evening at the fountain.

This bird is so tiny it can rest on a delicate branch. And it’s only a little longer than this Salvia bloom.

Lots of rain here in June (boo) The birds are skittish at the beginning of the summer which is why I buy so many plants. They’ll stay longer for a photoshoot if they have places to hide.

My decks is now full of blooming flowers. Good for photography.

This is such a beautiful plant and the hummingbirds love it. Mine is small now but here’s a link to more images

I’ve got two very large plants that I wasn’t sure a) would make it through the winter b) if they did, would bloom and c) for months starting in March my husband said they were weeds and I was beginning to believe him. These photos are from last year but finally these two monster size plants are blooming so I’ll have more. They are a desert plant so don’t need much water and definitely smell like mint.

Finally got a few shots in the fuschia. They love the purple salvias though.

Yesterday I spent the day behind my camera as usual but not looking for hummingbirds. I was watching my lovely daughter and her accomplished colleagues receive their graduation honors from Kenan-Flagler at UNC. Here are some of the photos from the week’s festivities.

I’ve got two pots with what I hope is this plant. They are both a few feet high but no blooms yet. So I suspect it might be two giant weeds. Cross your fingers!
